About the Artwork
I painted The Lonely Sailboat after a quiet walk on the beach one June morning. It was a bit of a chilly morning for summer. It had stormed the night before and the stormy clouds lingered as I walked along the seaside. The water was very still and there was a light fog along the horizon as the day tried to warm itself. I couldn’t exactly tell where the water ended and where the sky began. And then, amongst the still waters, I saw a lonely sailboat heading towards me in the way, way distance. It seemed as if only he and I were part of the world for just a brief moment.
