About the Artwork
Ravens are large members of the Corvus, or Crow family. The Common Raven is the most well-known. Ravens are extremely intelligent, clever, and known for solving complicated problems. They can mimic human speech, along with many other sounds. They have been known on occasion to disguise themselves by mimicking the sounds of other birds and animals.
Although these beautiful creatures seem ominous at first glance to most, they are believed to symbolize much more then death and darkness. Some cultures believe that ravens symbolize healing and transformation. Some cultures believe that ravens are spiritual messengers, offering answers to unanswered questions or offering enlightenment to fill a void. Many believe they are magical and mysterious.
