I See You

About the Artwork

When my love, Jeff passed away in December of 2024, my world shattered. We were just beginning our lives together, planning to get married, buying a house, all the things I had dreamed about my whole life. Four months later, I’m still consumed by grief, still trying to make sense of it all. Although very little is offering comfort right now, I’m finding some peace in creating art again, and some comfort from the kindness of those who somehow know the right things to say, or not to say. But mostly I’m finding comfort in signs that Jeff is sending me from the other side. In the months that have passed, lights have flickered on and off in our apartment, the ceiling fan turned on by itself more than once, and most recently Jeff found a way to strum his guitar in our bedroom not once, but three times over the last few weeks. Maestro, our cat, also on occasion stares in the corner past me where I sleep, as if someone is standing over me; he does this for several minutes at a time, and I know in my heart that it’s my Jeffrey.

Jeff also sends me signs through nature; he knows my beach walks are my favorite place to be (aside from being next to him). Wherever I seem to go, I see blackbirds. Of course my Jeff would send me blackbirds, the rockstar who wore black jeans and a black hoodie almost every day of his life. And so this painting is dedicated to Jeff as a thank you for continuing to send me his love to help me heal. This painting is dedicated to all those whom we have so deeply loved and lost, who continue to send us their love from the other side.

To my Jeffrey, I see you. You are in my heart always.
