Commissioned Art, Gently Explained
Designed for your space, your story, and your sense of calm

A commissioned artwork can be a beautiful, personal addition to your home. In the space where you spend the most time - where you make beautiful memories with family and friends, where you retreat to from the chaos of the outside world - it’s important to surround yourself with your story, your style, and the feeling you want to live with every day.
So, where’s a good place to start? When seeking out a commissioned piece, it is important to find artists who specialize in that niche. For example, if you are looking for a commissioned a seascape or landscape painting, I would be a great artist to reach out to.
On the other hand, if you are looking to commission a portrait of your adorable kitten or doggie, you would want to seek out an artist who specializes in animal portraits. Just like many things in life, not every artist is good in every niche. Additionally, when an artist is not passionate about the subject matter, it often shows in their work.
In general, any time you see an artist or an artwork that resonates with you, get the artist’s information, sign up for their e-newsletter, and/ or follow them on social media. Even if you might feel you are years away from owning a commissioned piece, it doesn’t hurt to stay in touch so that when the day comes, you’re ready.
Give as much information as you can ahead of time. These are some things to think about:
What is the subject matter?
What color schemes are you drawn to?
What size are you looking for?
What is your budget?
If it is a painting on canvas, are you having it framed?
Do you want to see process photos throughout the work, or would you like to be wowed when it is completed?
Ask questions before you commit. Some good questions to start with are:
Ask to see other commissioned work in the same style.
What is the total cost?
Is shipping available and is it an additional cost?
Is a deposit due ahead of time?
What is the estimated time frame?
Are you able to ask for small changes throughout the process?
I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to reach out with any comments or questions.
With much love and gratitude,
Daniela
